The Merle Frenchie is a fairly new denomination of the standard French Bulldog. Surprisingly, the colour is not found in purebred French Bulldogs; instead, it was likely incorporated through cross breeding with Merle Chihuahuas.
The main characteristic of the Merle colour is the distinct polka-dot pattern found across the dog. The fur of the Merle Frenchie is lightened compared to others, meaning the dark patches are more distinct and individualistic.

Do Fluffy Merle Frenchies Exist?
Yes! Fortunately, the Fluffy Gene can be transmitted to Merle Frenchies, too.
The Fluffy Gene is also a relatively new gene in the French Bulldog gene pool.
Carriers of the Fluffy Gene will not display any visual difference, but market value of these dogs tend to rise significantly.
However, dogs with two copies of the Fluffy Gene are called “visual fluffies”. This is because a longer fur length is visible – hence the name “Fluffy”!
