What Is A French Bulldog Stud Dog?

Ivy Rose Puppies have compiled a list of the most common questions about French Bulldog Stud Dogs. We advise all users to glance over the information below to assist you when searching for your perfect or first stud dog.

The Meaning Of Stud Dog

A stud dog is a male dog that regularly breeds with various female dogs to produce healthy offspring. They are often pure bred and true-to-type, with certificates of health and prior semen analysis.

Can I Stud My French Bulldog?

When you own a dog, it can be helpful to consider the nature of your ownership. By doing so, you can make informed decisions and decide whether studding your dog is the right option for you.

For most dog owners, studding their dog may become a tricky process as there are lots of vital prerequisites, including health testing, sperm testing, and more.

Furthermore, the older a dog is, the less likely they are to become a successful stud dog.

This is because sperm degradation often occurs over a continuous amount of time, meaning older dogs may have more degraded sperm.

But sperm quality is not the deciding factor; some pet owners may not want to breed their bitch with an older dog.

Here are some good questions to ask yourself before studding your dog:

For example:

  • Did you rescue the dog?
  • Did you purchase the dog with the intent to breed?
  • Have you considered registering him for stud or neutering him?

If you are satisfied with your answers to the above questions and would like to stud your dog, please get in touch with Canine Scanning as soon as possible.

Finding A French Bulldog Stud Dog

Ivy Rose Puppies specialise in breeding dogs. We have a well-known reputation and are known for our compassion and care when providing stud dogs and puppies.

A prime male stud dog should produce a suitable litter of healthy puppies.

For example, our main Fluffy French Bulldog stud dog, Batman, has sired many previous litters and is arguably the most famous French Bulldog stud in the U.K.

All Stud Dog Fees To Consider

Although actually breeding a dog is a fairly easy task, there are some considerations to make with regard to finances. The last thing you want to do is to leave yourself out of pocket after a breeding!

So, after you’ve ensured your dog is health checked and suitable for breeding (through the measures listed above) we can now fully discuss the actual cost of a stud dog.

Here are the stud dog fees all breeders should bear in mind:

  1. The Stud Dog Fee – the first (and most obvious) fee is the actually cost of the stud dog itself. It would be unfair to specify a certain or average price as the cost varies massively across the board. Check out our stud dogs by clicking here.
  2. Health Test Fees – health testing should be one of your first steps. It is vital that you have ensured your dog is suitable to breed from. Otherwise, complications can occur at birth, resulting in harmful birth defects and potentially death. Health testing starts at £50 on The Kennel Club website.
  3. Artificial Insemination Cost – artificial insemination is a modern, safer method of mating two dogs. It minimises the chances of STIs and is popular amongst the current breeding community. The average cost of this is £40.
  4. Ultrasound Scan Price – another vital safety measure is an ultrasound scan. It is very similar to human pregnancy scans and offers breeders the chance to know not only whether their dog is pregnant, but also how many puppies they are pregnant with. It is a much better alternative to a dog pregnancy test due to the accuracy and amount of information available. The average cost of a dog ultrasound is £30.
  5. C-Section and Birth Fees – after the long wait (63 days on average) of a dog pregnancy, the last thing you’d want is a failed birth. There are so many complications that can occur at birth, especially in smaller breeds such as the common French Bulldog. This is why we fully recommend a c-section. The average cost of a c-section varies, but is normally around £800. However, you should ensure you have enough to cover this cost twice.

And that’s it! Although more costs may incur with regards to the puppies they are a separate cost to studding or breeding your dog. The list of stud dog fees above should help new and old dog breeders make the most of their breeding experience, ensuring it is as positive and smooth as possible.

What Are The French Bulldog Stud Fees In The U.K?

The average fee for a French Bulldog Stud Dog is £500.

However, the true costs are dependant on a few different factors such as:

  • DNA
  • Colours
  • Genes
  • Location
  • Type of mating
  • Rarity

And more. That’s why it’s crucial to ensure you have a suitable amount of funds available to breed your dog.

Moreover, there are other fees involved when breeding your dog with a French Bulldog stud dog. For example, most breeders prefer to artificially inseminate. This fee may be inclusive of the stud fee or could be an excess charge of around £40. Though, artificial insemination is something that all breeders should consider due to the positive safety implications.
